Why Hopkins?

The purpose of the Title I-A grant is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Furthermore, the grant is designed to close the achievement gap between high- and low-achieving children, especially the achievement gaps between minority and non-minority students, and between disadvantaged children and their more advantaged peers.

In Sherwood, in order to determine who to serve using Title I-A funds, the District uses a low-income percentage based upon the number of students on free or reduced lunch.  Hopkins shows the greatest need with a percentage fluctuating between 28-35%. Hopkins uses its funding to offer a Pre-Kindergarten program to qualifying students and support our neediest learners in reading and math in grades K-5.
